The Scholar track will support clinicians, researchers, lab/policy staff, and analysts interested in collaborating on research in criminal legal/health settings. The Scholar program focuses on partnering with researchers, formulating research questions, understanding elements of research design, ethical issues concerning research, and collaborator roles to ground and translate the conduct of research in criminal legal and/or health settings.
The program will consist of a one-year research education program commencing in December of 2024. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in research knowledge and skills workshops, networking, and mentoring. Participants will refine their goals for the program in a supportive setting. Over the ensuing year, there will be webinars and structured online mentoring. Participants will be encouraged to develop experiential project on their chosen work to be disseminated in a peer-reviewed research conference.
The LEAP Scholar Track admission requires an application to be completed and selection to participate will be based on the strength of your application.
Scholars are expected to fully commit to this program in the following ways:
- Attend monthly virtual sessions including a program launch and orientation
- Participate in pre- and post-program evaluations (i.e., surveys, focus groups)
- Attend and participate in the Academic Consortium of Criminal Justice Health (ACCJH) conference (held in various U.S. cities each spring) (travel funding provided)
- Engage with program mentors, peers, and JCOIN members, as required
- Complete an experiential learning project
Applications are being accepted for the 2024-25 cohort of 10 scholar and 10 investigator participants and must be completed by 11/06/24. Applications will be reviewed by the JCOIN LEAP program leadership team and scored using a detailed rubric. All scoring will be based on the strength of written goals, quality of curriculum vitae/resume as a fit for this program, articulated plan to engage in research as a collaborator, and described motivation to participate in research within the criminal legal and health fields.
